Dear Parents,
Scientists in Schools
Thank you to the parents who have generously offered to enrich Science Week by sharing their science background with us. Unfortunately we have one class that might miss out. L If you can help please contact either Catherine Whiting or myself as soon as possible. For example… if work in pathology you might like to do a brief presentation to explain your work then assist the students to do a separating liquids experiment. ….Or maybe you work as a grain inspector, you could bring some grain samples for the children to classify and identify pests. Just think of the possibilities!
Good Luck Josh!
Next week we will have a new face in the office as Christine takes leave to accompany her son, Josh, in the Australian School Boys Basketball Championships in Darwin. Josh was one of our year six students last year and has gone on to excel in his beloved basketball. He was chosen to represent Victoria ahead of many talented hopefuls and has worn a well-deserved grin ever since, almost as big as proud Mum’s. We wish Josh and Christine every success in Darwin.
Cathy will be in our office for three days next week juggling her permanent position at another school. The office will be open during shorter hours the other 2 days.
Improving Victorian Education
A new website launched for students and parents to have their say on improving education. It has been designed to ensure that parents, students and the broader education community have their say on how school education in Victoria could be improved. As part of obtaining this information from students and the community Minister Kosky has launched a new website. This new website is now live at www.betterschools.com.au
Visiting Fox
You would have heard the expression “clever as a fox” we have had first hand experience with this over the last week. A rather straggly looking fox has been disturbed from his home as a result of the building development next to our school grounds. He has wandered into the school ground in search of food seemingly unperturbed by the excitement he caused. An RSPCA officer been helping us, but, true to the fox reputation he has proved to be most elusive. Happily we have not seen the fox this week so we can only assume he has found a less disruptive home.
The experience has made us look closely at litter in the school ground and the teachers are ensuring that food is consumed in the classrooms.

A note from our School Council President
It is pleasing to see the involvement of so many parents in and around the school in the recent months. Thank you, it certainly makes a difference, keep up the wonderful effort.
There is a definite feeling of energy and enthusiasm amongst staff, students and parents. School Council is working hard to foster and build on this.
Working Bee reminder for August 24th. Many hands make light work and last time we had lots of fun too. Why not join us ……………..?
Soon embarking on Parent Opinion Survey, and as this can be an important tool in determining the future pathways of the school, I hope parents can take a few minutes to answer the questions, provide their feedback and return the forms promptly. The process is completely anonymous and your answers and comments are extremely valuable.
Regards
Ronnie Flanagan
